Once upon a time.

There came to town American anger
Taken to challenge the police line barriers
Broke down the line in conflict and smoke
Not in hand the taste of wine nor gift of rose
Stick and sign wrote our league’s language
We came and saw the shoving swinging
The barricade moving forward and back
Signs swinging the air filled with smoke
The American anger fought the way
Through the windows and holding lines
The anger smashed climbing over rock and stone
Unknown Child of God lost in the commotion
Mary Mother of Saints heal our hearts
Hear our call wash clean our hands
All things seen in the days sun now sowed
The light that shone the earth beneath awaken
Above the two lines kept separate the stands made
Inside the kept stairways held the insurgency back
Through window and door it swept like a bright lantern
Taking the leaders of the floor to recede to the shelter
Anger swept throughout the leaders of both in the moment
Crossing doorways threshold bringing lines mix
Challenging each other on its challenged grounds
The alter of democracy bleeding from the mouth.
